Estalished in 2007, JN Kites UK is run by husband and wife team, Richard Boughton and Sarah Sylvester based near Bantham in South Devon. We aim to provide what we feel is some of the best designed and highest quality equipment available, as well as unsurpassed advice and after-sales service to everyone from beginners to high level riders.

Sarah Sylvester

Sarah has been snowboarding and skiing at a high level for a long time, and wanted to find a sport that gave her the same rush when there wasn't any snow. Having grown up in Southern Africa, she developed the travel bug at an early age, and set off travelling in South America and Asia where she discovered kitesurfing.

After returning to the UK, and working in a 'real job' in London for a couple of years, kitesurfing only occasionally, she decided it was time for change. So she did a trip to Brazil and finally cracked the sport. Back in the UK, she trained as a BKSA instructor and spent the next three years teaching and travelling in locations such as Cape Verde, Brazil, South Africa, Western Australia, Morocco, and snowkiting in Norway, Italy and Iceland.

Over this time Sarah competed in the BKSA freestyle discipline, and the European Snowkite Championship, and placed well, giving some of the younger ladies a run for their money. Following a knee injury mid-season, she got back on the water with a surf board to gently rehabilitate the knee and realized the carving and timing skills from snowboarding crossed over well, and she was instantly rather good at it.

In 2011, in her first wave competition, she won the BKSA Wavemasters, making her British wave champion, and in 2012 she competed in a mixed Wave Jam, ranking 4th on the first day against the guys. Sarah is now very wave-focused and wants to push her strapless riding further, and do more aerial tricks. Circle One support her with wetsuits and boards.

Richard Boughton

Rich has been working in and around the kitesurf industry for eight years, and there's not a lot he doesn't know about inflatable kites. With a degree in 3D design, Rich is involved with R&D on new JN products, testing, feedback and production of marketing material.

Rich and Sarah met on their instructors course, and then travelled together instructing for several years all over the globe. He helped coach Sarah to competition sucess, and is one of the most renowned kite caddies in the business.

After training with a sailmaker, he now handles kite repair work, with a (literally) in house repair service keeping him busy throughout the winter months.

Riding wise, Rich is a jack of all trades, these days focusing mainly on strapless wave riding, but when conditions are right, heading straight back to some hefty kiteloops and wakestyle on a twintip. This means he can test equipment in all wind ranges and applications and give the best advice possible.
